Her obituary: Wylene Hudson Summey, March 28, 1922 – June 23, 2020. Wylene Hudson Summey passed away at Tranquility Hospice at Kennesaw Mountain on Tuesday June 23rd, 2020. Wylene will be buried next to her husband, Rev. Mack Summey at Noonday Baptist Church Cemetery. Services are private. Mrs. Summey enjoyed a full life which included teaching careers both at Blackwell Elementary and at Sprayberry High School, from which she retired. She was proud to share that she was the first teacher to be hired when Sprayberry opened on the four lane. She graduated from Marietta High School and from the University of Georgia from which she earned two Masters Degrees and a six year certification while she was employed full time and driving back and forth to Athens on the weekends. After retiring from teaching, she and her husband, Rev. Mack Summey, enjoyed traveling on their own. For many years she also arranged and conducted tour group trips all over the U.S. and Europe. She was always proud of her family and her career. She enjoyed the students she taught, and she was a positive influence for many. She always had time to listen and try to help anyone she could. She taught several generations of the same families and delighted in remembering them…and their family histories. She never wasted a day in her life and will be remembered for the care and love she showed to others as well as her work ethic, continuous energy, intellect, creativity, sense of humor, and contributions to many lives. Wylene is preceded in passing by her husband, Rev. Mack M. Summey; parents, John C. Nicholson and Martha P. Nicholson of Marietta; sister, Wilmasrose Nicholson Davis of South Carolina; brother, John P. Nicholson of Athens. She is survived by her son, Ken Hudson of Canton, GA; Sheri Rutledge (Radar) of South Carolina; granddaughters Kendal Hall (Philip Manuel); Jessica Quinn (Josh); great granddaughter Caroline Hall; as well as many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to her village of friends and neighbors who have been support for each other for many years and to the Tranquility Hospice at Kennesaw Mountain for the sincere care for her and her family during these recent times. Rev. and Mrs. Summey were members of First Baptist Church in Marietta. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Wylene Summey's name to St. Jude's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or The Alzheimers Association, 699 Oakleaf Office Lane, Memphis, TN 38117.
