Her obituary: Viola Benshushan, 64, Devoted mother. Devoted mother, sister, grandmother and friend, Viola Benshushan, 64, of Smyrna, died September 1 after a tenacious and courageous battle with cancer. A lifelong resident of Atlanta, Viola was the daughter of Perla and Isaac Benshushan and a graduate of Grady High School. She was a member of Or VeShalom Synagogue and was involved in various organizations including Hadassah, ORT, and Sisterhood. She was a retired teacher who dedicated 32 years of her life to students in and around metro Atlanta. Viola cherished her Atlanta roots and, in turn, was cherished by the hundreds of friends and family who knew her. She is survived by her sister and brother in-law, Rachael and Morris Galanti of Atlanta; daughter and son in-law, Lorraine and Alan Silverman of Asheville, NC; daughter, Patrice Cohen of Atlanta; son and daughter in-law, Jeffrey and Janet Cohen of Atlanta; daughter, Ilise Cohen of Atlanta, and her two grandchildren, Tori and Elliot Silverman of Asheville, NC. In addition, Viola's vitality and strength will be remembered by the nieces, nephews, and countless friends she influenced during her life. Graveside services will be held today, September 3 at 11:00 a.m. at Arlington Cemetery with Rabbi S. Robert Ichay and Rabbi Iosef Bitton officiating. Shiva services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, September 3-5 at Or VeShalom.
