His obituary: Sgt. Ralph Murphy August 1, 1927 – August 20, 2012 Ralph A. Murphy, 84 years old of Marietta died August 3, 2012. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eleanor Caldwell Murphy, his mother and father, Mr. & Mrs. Arthur Murphy, two sisters, Audrey Satchel and Kathy Brown, two brothers Arthur Murphy, Jr. and Chalmers Murphy. He is survived by his wife Geraldine, two sons Ralph L. Murphy (daughter-in-law Nina), Hoyt M. Murphy (daughter-in-law Susan), four granddaughters, Alex, Katie and Tracye Murphy and Samantha Davidson (husband Justin), one great granddaughter Harper Davidson, two step daughters Terry Elliott (husband Rob) and Tammy Rich, two step grandsons Adam Jones and Brian Jones, one step granddaughter Erika Elliott, one sister Frances Hope (husband Dencil). Mr. Murphy served 28 years in the U.S. Armed forces and retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Sr. Master Sgt. After retiring from the military, he taught school for Cobb County School System for 21 years as a Dept. Chairman teaching technical and industrial arts. Mr. Murphy joined the Masonic Blue Lodge in Sept. 1953 and became a Shriner in 1957. He joined the YAARAB Shrine Temple February 15, 1971. He is a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge, YAARAB Shrine Temple and Kennesaw Mountain Shrine Club. Mr. Murphy attended Roswell Street Baptist Church for many years and then attended Summit Baptist Church in Kennesaw, GA. The Family will receive friends and family Saturday August 18th from 1-2PM, with services beginning 2:00PM with Rev. Lee Gambrell, Rev. Dennis Bellamy & Jay Dye officiating at Marietta Funeral Home located at 915 Piedmont Road, Marietta.
