Her obituary: Joyce Elaine Myers Fike August 25, 1941 – February 6, 2020 Joyce Elaine Myers Fike, 78, of Marietta, passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2020. A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, February 16 at Marietta First United Methodist Church. Joyce was born in Harrisonburg, VA on August 25, 1942. She became a pastor’s wife on June, 7, 1959 at the age of 17 when she married her best friend and husband of 60 years, Cecil. Joyce was great support to her husband as they ministered to 5 Church of the Brethren congregations in Virginia, West Virginia and North Carolina. She served as pianist, organist, youth and children’s choir director. After retirement Joyce accompanied her husband in mission work to the former Soviet Union Republic of Georgia where she taught young girls to sew, assisted in the painting of a Deaf School and helped in the construction of a Georgian Orthodox Chapel. Most recently she was a member of Marietta First United Methodist Church and Open Door Sunday School Class. Joyce graduated from Bridgewater College with a Bachelor of Science degree. As a teacher, Joyce taught 3rd grade in Addison, IL, and special education at Tinker Middle School in Roanoke, VA. She spent most of her career at Sprayberry High School in Marietta, GA where she taught for 21 years. At Sprayberry she taught both boys and girls in clothing construction and relationship classes, including sex education and child growth and development. Most of all, she loved her students, many of whom she continued to hear from for the remainder of her life. Following a medical retirement from Sprayberry High School Joyce became the Administrative Assistant for the Vice President and General Manager at The University Financing Foundation, Atlanta, GA. In addition to her continual dedication to church, family and career, Joyce also enjoyed many hobbies including flower gardening, bird watching, playing the organ and piano, greeting card ministry, and basket weaving. Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, Harold Abram Myers and Janet Adel Liskey Myers; and infant brother, David Wayne Myers. She is survived by her husband, Rev. Cecil Wayne Fike, of Marietta; son, Kevin Allen Fike, of Kennesaw, GA; and grandson, Chandler Abram Fike of Kennesaw, GA; sister, Barbara Myers Kiracofe of Bridgewater, VA. In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to the organ fund at Marietta First United Methodist Church, 56 Whitlock Avenue, Marietta, GA 30060.
