His obituary: McClure. John Calvin McClure, 68, Lt. Colonel USAF (Ret), Marietta, GA, passed away on May 21, 1994. After earning a degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Alabama in 1949, he served 22 years of active duty as a test pilot in the United States Air Force. In 1966, he received an MBA in management from Georgia State University. A native of Florence, AL, John and his family moved to Cobb County 32 years ago. After serving a tour of duty in Viet Nam, where he earned the Distinguished Flying Cross among other commendations, he retired in Marietta. He then worked for Lockheed-Georgia Company as a test pilot. He was an ROTC instructor at Sprayberry High School and then served on the Cobb County Board of Education. He was an active farmer and for the past five years had been the Manager of the Cobb County Animal Control Department. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Nedra E. McClure; his daughters, Karen M. Baker, Marietta, GA, and Debra M. Wooten, Cartersville, GA; his son, John (Jay) C. McClure, Jr. Hampton, VA, his mother, Mary Lena McClure, Florence, AL; his brothers, Lewis McClure, Nashville, TN; and Chester McClure, Florence, AL; a sister, Josephine Banning, Nashville, TN; granddaughters, Alison B. Broughton, Angela L. Baker, and Kelly Wooten, all of Marietta, GA; grandsons, John Caleb McClure and Jacob Paul McClure, Hampton, VA, and Brent Wooten, Woodstock, GA; a great-grandson, Tyler John Broughton, Marietta, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the John McClure Scholarship Fund, c/o Dr. Michael Good, 1343 Gresham Road, Marietta, GA 30062; or to the Piedmont Road Church of Christ, Building Fund, 1630 Piedmont Road, N.E., Marietta, GA 30066. Services will be Tuesday, May 24, at 11 AM at the Piedmont Road Church of Christ, Marietta, GA, with Carl Goad officiating. The body will lie in state at the church at 10 AM. Burial, with military honors, will be at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park, Marietta, GA. The family will receive friends from 6-9 PM on Monday, May 23 at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home, Marietta, GA.
