Her obituary: Audrey Jane Ford Cofer, November 19, 1944 – November 1, 2024. Audrey Jane Ford Cofer, lovingly known as Jane, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2024, in Braselton, GA, at the age of 79. Born in Columbus, GA, on November 19, 1944, Jane led a life devoted to education, family, and faith. Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Pinkney Michael Cofer; her father, William Redd Ford, Sr.; her mother, Lillian Audrey Moon Ford; and her brother, William Redd Ford, Jr., Jane is survived by her devoted daughter, Audrey Christine Christy Darst, and son–in–law, Brent Darst; her adored granddaughters, Audrey Katelyn Watson and Lyndsey Brooke Watson; her step-son, Kenneth Ken Michael Cofer, and step–daughter–in–law, Stacy Bowen Cofer; her step–granddaughter, Kayly Cofer; and her dear niece, Victoria Audrey Ford. Jane graduated from Columbus High School and pursued her passion for education, earning a Bachelor's degree in Education from the University of Georgia in 1966, with a focus on Speech Therapy and Hearing Impaired studies. She continued her studies, obtaining a Master's in Education from Georgia State University in 1973, and later, a Specialist in Education from West Georgia College. Jane was a proud life member of the Beta Sigma chapter of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. For over 32 years, Jane dedicated herself to educating hearing-impaired students in Cobb County, profoundly impacting lives with her compassion, patience, and expertise. Beyond her teaching career, she was deeply devoted to her faith and community through active service at First Presbyterian Church of Marietta and Commerce. Jane served as a Deacon, an Elder, and a trusted member of the church Session. She also contributed to various Search Committees and served as an advisor to seminary candidates for the Presbytery. In addition, she chaired Christian Education, volunteered with the Chancel Guild, and shared her warmth and faith as a second–grade Sunday school teacher. Her lifelong dedication to the church was honored with a Life Membership in Presbyterian Women. Jane was also active in several historical and genealogical societies, including the Phillips Legion and Fielding Lewis chapters of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Nicholas Wallingford Chapter of the Colonial Dames XVII Century, and the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC). Jane will be lovingly remembered for her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering faith. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love, kindness, and devotion to her family, community, and cherished students. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know and love her. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, November 7, 2024 at the Sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church in Marietta, GA. Jane will be buried next to her husband Mike at 1:30 PM Friday at Parkhill Cemetery in Columbus, GA.
