His obituary: Mr. Donald M. Everett, Sr. Mr. Donald M. Everett, Sr. age 87, of Rome died Friday morning following a brief illness. Mr. Everett was born November 25, 1921 in Salt Lake City, Utah, son of the late Orson Everett and Laurie Malin Everett. Mr. Everett was a graduate of Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y. where he received a master's degree in Music Theory. He was also a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army in the European theater of operation. Mr. Everett had worked for a short time as a reporter for the Salt Lake City Tribune, coming to Rome in 1956 where he owned and operated the Music Room for the past 53 years. Mr. Everett was a past president of the Rome Rotary Club and served on the Board for the Rome Symphony Orchestra.
In addition to his parents Mr. Everett was proceded in death by his wife, Gwen Hutcherson Everett on May 17, 2005 and a sister, Virginia Denhalter. Survivors include his daughter, Leslie E. Tate and her husband Rex, Rome, son Donald M. Everett, Jr., New York City; grandchildren, Jennifer Tate Dehart and her husband Robert, Cartersville and Malin Tate and his wife Tammy, Birmingham, AL; one sister, Elaine Wessman Kearns, Utah and a number of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday 6 p.m. in St. Peter's Episcopal Church with Rev. Roger Ard and Rev. Janice Wright officiating. The family respectfully asks in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to the Berry College Music Department, 2277 Martha Berry Hwy., Mount Berry, GA 30149, Shorter College Music Department, 315 Shorter Ave, Rome, GA 30165 or the Rome Symphony Orchestra, PO Box 533, Rome, GA 30162-0533.
