His obituary: Billy Albert Dent – Mr. Billy ("Bill") Albert Dent of Cartersville passed away on June 20, 2018, following a brief illness. Mr. Dent was born on December 25, 1934, to the late Laura and F.E. Dent of Toomsboro and was a longtime member of Wofford's Cross Roads Baptist Church where he served faithfully as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, song leader, choir member, social chairman and chairman of various other church committees. He was an honor graduate of Wilkinson County High School, received his undergraduate degree from Berry College and advanced degrees from the George Peabody College for Teachers (now part of Vanderbilt University) and the University of Georgia. Following service in the United States Army, Mr. Dent enjoyed a 22-year career in the education field with his last position as principal of Cartersville High School for 10 years. Subsequently, he transitioned to a career in private industry, retiring from Shaw Industries after 15 years of dedicated service. Upon his retirement, Mr. Dent devoted his time to assisting his wife with caring for her elderly parents, enjoying countless hours and activities with his precious grandchildren, gardening and serving his church. Mr. Dent was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Ben, John, Jim and Julian Dent; one sister, Ann ("Sis") Moon; and his wife of 55 years, Nora Bishop Dent. He is survived by his three children, Laura Morgan (Doug Davis), Libby (John) Dodge and John (Camille) Dent; grandchildren, Katherine (Dustin) Wallraven, Emily (Chris) Fowler, Caroline Dent, Andrew Kennedy, Jack Dodge, Maggie Dent and Laura Dodge; great-grandson, John Robert Wallraven; brother, Hub (Annette) Dent; sisters-in-law, Duane Dent and Diana Dent; brothers-in-law, Harrell Moon and Jerry (Regina) Bishop and his children, Janis Bishop and Jerry (Marie) Bishop; and numerous other nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be conducted on Saturday, June 23, at 11 am at Wofford's Cross Roads Baptist Church, White, GA, with Revs. Richard Brown and Richard Poe officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 22, from 5 to 8 pm at Owen Funeral Home, Cartersville, GA. Pallbearers include Andrew Kennedy, Jack Dodge, Dustin Wallraven, Chris Fowler, Noah Bishop and Shawn De La Cruz.
