Her obituary: Biron, Beth – Dr. Beth Dyer Biron passed away on May 8, 2025. Born to Carolyn (Dinkins) and Henry Austin Dyer on May 9, 1938 in Spartanburg SC, she moved with her family to Hamilton, GA as a young child and to Dalton, GA when she was a teenager. Beth graduated from Dalton High School, majored in Romance Languages at the University of Georgia, and settled in Atlanta after marrying Lucien Douglas Biron of Elberton, GA. Returning to Dalton in 1969, Beth spent a few years reporting on social and cultural news for The Daily Citizen News before joining Dalton State College where she taught English, French, Spanish, and Art History. She obtained a Masters in Comparative Literature from Emory University by commuting to Atlanta over a two-year period while teaching at DSC. She enrolled in UGA again at the age of 45 to complete a PhD in French. She was most proud of creating and leading University of Georgia System study abroad programs in France for many years after that. Beth was a longtime member and leader in Dalton's First United Methodist Church. She cherished the deep friendships she and her family developed in the church over the years. After retiring, she moved to Hendersonville, NC, where she made many close friends in the Heritage Hills community and at her new church there.
Beth is survived by her children, Jonathan Biron (Athens, GA) and Rebecca Biron (Lyme, NH), along with their spouses Edwina and Michelle, and a grandson Quinn Biron Warren (Boston, MA). She was predeceased by her parents and her beloved brother, Henry A. Dyer, Jr.
