His obituary: Brian James Leighty, May 27, 1966 – December 22, 2022, (age 56). Brian James Leighty passed away on the morning of December 22, 2022, at the age of 56. He was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and raised in Georgia. Brian had a lifelong love of the outdoors, with a degree in forestry from the University of Georgia and oceanography from the University of West Florida. Though his almost 34-year career was in the forestry field, he found great joy exploring oceans and reefs. An avid Certified Master Diver and SCUBA Instructor, Brian took every opportunity to be in the water. Over the years, he mentored several youth in scuba and enjoyed passing on his knowledge. He is remembered by all as a kind soul and fierce friend who never hesitated to help when there was a need. Brian is survived by his parents Robert and Joan, sister Brenda (Craig), as well as nieces Brittany (Taylor) and Elizabeth, and nephew Eilam. All of his family and friends mourn his loss, miss him deeply, and will keep him in our hearts forever.
