His obituary: Philip Ray Barnes, September 13, 1965 – December 13, 2013. Philip Ray Barnes, 48, of Kennesaw passed away Friday December 13, 2013. A memorial service will held at 4:00pm Saturday December 21, 2013 at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home and Crematory Macland Chapel in Powder Springs. Philip was born on September 13, 1965 to Ray and Irene Barnes at Rhein-Main Air Force base in Frankfurt, Germany. They moved to Georgia in 1968. Philip graduated from Sprayberry High School and the University of Georgia, where he met his wife, Cynthia. They married in 1989 and moved to Kennesaw, Georgia in 1992. He worked for Genuine Auto Parts for 23 years up until his death. He is survived by his wife and children, Drew and Kaylyn. His parents, sister Patti Smith and nephew Cody Smith reside in Marietta. His sister in law, Jessica Shirley, her husband Jimmy and children, James and Allison Shirley, live in Monroe, Georgia. Phil was a sports fan and enjoyed watching his favorite teams – Drew's team, Kaylyn's team and the Georgia Bulldogs. He enjoyed lake activities, playing golf, cooking, and cars. He loved his family and was a loyal friend. If you were ever his friend, you were his friend for life. He will be greatly missed by many. The family will receive friends from 2:00pm - 4:00pm Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home.
