His obituary: Bruce David Merrell, June 6, 1960 – October 25, 2009. Oxford – Funeral service for Mr. Bruce David Merrell, 49, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in Anniston with the Rev. Hal Noble and the Rev. Brandon Harris officiating. The body will lie in state one hour prior to services. The burial will follow at Forestlawn Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 5-7 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home. Mr. Merrell is survived by his wife, Kimberly Williams Merrell, of Oxford, four children, Will, Wesley, Mitch and Rebecca; two sisters, Lisa Askew and her husband, Mike, of Oxford, and Vida DeHart and her husband, Ricky of LA; aunt, Helen Gray, of Panama City, Fla., aunt and uncle, Bob and Judy Collier, of Oxford, Miss.; five nieces and two nephews; many more friends and family. Mr. Merrell was a native of Prattville, but has resided in Calhoun County for 10 years. He served in the United States Air Force for four years where he obtained the rank of Sergeant. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Anniston where he was active with the Chancel Choir and the Wood Carvers. Mr. Merrell was preceded in death by his parents, David and Guylene Merrell.
