His obituary: Donald R. Archer, MD, September 9, 1959 – April 25, 2025. Donald R. Archer, MD, age 65, of Newark, DE passed away at home surrounded by his family on April 25th, 2025. Born in Camp Lejeune Naval Hospital in Jacksonville, NC, he was the son of Ann Elizabeth (Toy) and Donald Richard Archer, Sr. He graduated from Sprayberry High School in Marietta, GA, where he held the 100-yard dash record and was Cobb County Champion, achievements that earned him a track scholarship to Berry College in Mount Berry, GA. Don's athletic career was cut short by an injury that left him paralyzed, but he did not let that define him. As a result of his injury, Don chose to pursue a career in medicine, graduating from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta in 1988. He completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Thomas Jefferson University and practiced as a physiatrist at Physiatrists Associates at Christiana Care in Wilmington. He was privileged to care for patients in some of the most difficult times of their lives. Don is survived by his wife of 35 years, Amy Archer; his children, Jacob and Patrick Archer; his parents, Donald Sr. and Ann Archer; his siblings and their spouses, Christopher and Tracy Archer, Michael Archer, Lori and Daryl Dunahoo, Scott Archer, Robert Archer, and Steven Archer; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family. A visitation will be held at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road,Wilmington, DE from 5 P.M. to 6:30 P.M. on Monday May 5th. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday May 6th at 10 A.M. at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, 7200 Lancaster Pike Hockessin, DE 19707. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to charity.
