His obituary: James Walter New Jr., February 23, 2024. James Walter New, Jr., lovingly known as J.J. , passed away February 23, 2024. James was born to James W. New, Sr. and Mary Houston New in Marietta. James spent his childhood in Marietta, and graduated from Sprayberry High School. After high school, in 1979 while James was working at Cobb Hospital, he met the love of his life, Donna Tycia Moon. The two were married in 1981 and went on to raise three beautiful children. James began his career in healthcare as an X-Ray technologist, and went on to be a CT Technologist. He rotated working at Wellstar Cobb and Kennestone throughout his career, and he retired from Wellstar in 2018. A devoted father, James loved spending time with his children. He loved art and enjoyed drawing in his free time. He was a movie buff, a science and history enthusiast, and had watched every documentary on aliens that he could get his hands on. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who loved him. James was a member of Due West United Methodist Church. James is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Tim New. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Donna T. New; children, Daniel New and his wife, Allison of Acworth, Joseph New of Dallas, and Emily New of Dallas; brother, Jeffrey Wayne New and his wife, Kathy of Marietta; grandchildren, Noah, Elliana, Karter, and Rosa; and many beloved extended family and friends. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 27th, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Davis-Struempf Funeral Home.
