His obituary: Michael Robert Fife. May 21, 1953 – February 8, 2026. Michael Robert Fife passed away unexpectedly at his home in St. Mary's, Georgia, on February 8, 2026, at the age of 72. His family is deeply saddened and still in shock by his sudden passing. Mike was born on May 21, 1953, in Louisville, Kentucky. He lived a full and remarkable life. He graduated from Sprayberry High School in Marietta, Georgia in 1971. He later attended the University of Florida and transferred to Florida State University, where he completed his degree, following a stint in the U. S. Army during which time he was stationed in Germany. The world was truly Mike's oyster. His career included work with the Naval Intelligence Service (NIS), and later as a U. S. Secret Service Agent, serving the Reagan presidency, where he protected presidential candidates such as Jessie Jackson. He was also a Captain in the U.S. Army. He went on to the private security arena, where he traveled the world with high profile clients such as the Saudi Arabian royal family. He was also Oprah Winfrey's personal bodyguard. He rounded out his career working with the Department of Homeland Security. Throughout his career Mike traveled to approximately forty-four countries, experiences that reflected his dedication, courage, and sense of adventure. Mike was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed. He was predeceased by his parents Dr. and Mrs. Richard M. Fife of Marietta, Georgia, and his beloved son Ryan Fife, a loss that forever broke his heart. Survivors include Gail LeStourgeon, his partner of eleven years, daughter Laura Hornor (Steven Farley) of Atlanta, Georgia, sister Susan Shearouse (Wayne) of Canton, Georgia, brother Richard Fife (Karen) of Alberton, Montana, and brother David Fife of Anchor Bay, California. Michael is also survived by nieces Sarah Shearouse (Cory DeBord) of Canton, Georgia, Anna Curran (Benjamin) of Pikesville, Maryland, Lindsey Jaworski (James Santos) of Seattle, Washington, and nephew Matthew Fife (Lynsey Mouer) of Phoenix, Arizona, and his former wife Barbara Pompili of Bradenton, Florida, as well as great-nephews Arthur and Nathaniel and great-nieces Annika and Louisa. Allison Memorial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
