His obituary: James Lawrence Wilcox, September 19, 1953 – August 29, 2020. James Jim Lawrence Wilcox, age 66, passed away on August 29, 2020 in Marietta, Georgia. Jim was born on September 19, 1953 to the late Donald and Janet Wilcox in El Monte, California. Jim led an incredible and abundantly happy life. He had many amazing accomplishments and this was evident in his drive and motivation. Once he put his mind to it, it was going to be done. Shortly after graduating high school, Jim enrolled into the United States Navy. While in the Navy, He was rewarded with many medals such as, Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation with two bronze stars, Vietnamese Meritorious Unit Commendation, National Defense Service Medal with a bronze star, Sea Service Deployment ribbon with three bronze stars, Navy Achievement Medal, SSBN Deterrent Patrol Insignia with two silver stars and two bronze stars, Vietnam service medal, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He earned these during his twenty-four years of honorable service. Through the military, Jim traveled a lot and highly enjoyed all the places he has visited. He even had a list of places he wanted to go back to and visit in his spare time as a vacation.
Jim was very well educated and liked to gain any type of knowledge. He had a total of four degrees, two Associates and two Bachelors in Business and in Nursing. On July 16, 1976, he married his love Vickie Wilcox. They remained married for the next thirty-one years before her passing on September 1, 2007. When Vickie was diagnosed with a terminal lung disease, Jim obtained his Nursing Degree so he could understand what she was going through and be by her side to take care of her. His love for her was immeasurable. Jim had a heart full of love. He was the patriarch of the family. His grandchildren were the apple of his eye. Jim was a loving father, brother, grandfather, nephew, uncle and a friend to all. To his grandbabies he was Papa Jim; to his friends, he was Jimmy. Around 2010, Jim became a proud member of the Taco Mac Brewniversity. His credit earned him the title of Beer God, which had many perks. Taco Mac has done extraordinary things for Jim, flying him to Germany for Octoberfest and Colorado for the Great American Beer Festival were some of the many. Every week, Jim would frequent Taco Mac and enjoy others company. He was well known and had many friends. Jim will be missed dearly. Jim is survived by his sons, Jeremy Wilcox and Derrick (Sara) Wilcox; brother, his grandchildren Logan Wilcox and Maddie Wilcox, his nephews Jonathan and Andy Wilcox and his niece Marsha Bunn.
