Class of 1971

Debi Goff. Debi died on August 2, 2024.

She had no printed obituary. This tribute was posted on Facebook by her daughter: Debra A. Goff-Rose graced our lives on January 12, 1952, and her vibrant spirit illuminated every room she entered. With mischievous eyes and a heart full of laughter, she painted a sun on her car during high school–a rebellious act that left her parents both exasperated and secretly proud. But Debi, affectionately known as Red, was more than just a free spirit; she was a force of nature. Her life was a tapestry woven with threads of humor, grace, and showmanship. Strangers became friends in her presence, and she could sweet-talk her way out of speeding tickets with a wink and a smile. Yet her kindness extended beyond mere charm. Debi took a woman with dementia to bingo every week, giving caregivers a precious respite. She fed goats, chickens, and countless other creatures with food that would otherwise go to waste. Resourceful and compassionate, she embodied the art of living fully. Debi is survived by her only child, Michele GR Langhans (Buford, GA), and her brother, George Goff, and his wife Michele. She had many cousins, aunts, and uncles from all over. In addition, she had friends who were like family–people whose lives she touched with her warmth and generosity. Debi had a standing request: no funerals upon her passing. Instead, she promised to return as a mischievous spirit haunting those who mourned her. So, in celebration of her extraordinary life, we gather under the stars, fireworks illuminating the night sky. Glasses of wine are raised, and laughter mingles with tears as we share our cherished–and often uproarious–stories of Debi's adventures. A future date will be announced. May her legacy continue to inspire us to live boldly, love fiercely, and find joy in every sun-painted moment.
