His obituary: Fred Ray Towns, February 12, 1949 *– April 2, 2026. Fred Ray Towns, age 77, of Canton, Georgia passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2026. Fred was born and raised in Marietta, Georgia. He was a child in a family of nine children. Fred was a longtime member of East Cobb Baptist Church and attended Sprayberry High School before moving to Canton around 40 years ago. Fred loved the outdoors. His greatest pleasure was riding his mower and tractor while cultivating his land. It thrilled him to watch his property turn into a paradise sheltering all the birds and animals that lived there along with him. He got immense pleasure watching the herd of deer and flocks of turkey swarming his yard everyday eating up his acorns and anything else they would find. Fred always wanted to be a cowboy. He loved cowboy movies and always admired the simplicity of life in that era. For a period of time, he owned three horses riding all over the Corp of Engineer roads and trails until his health would not allow it anymore. In his early years, he played the bass guitar with his brothers showering us with music at family gatherings. In addition, he had an appreciation for classic trucks, always shining his 91 Chevy Dually he has owned for years. Fred spent his employment years as a residential and commercial electrician servicing the Atlanta area. He mentored and taught many young apprentice electricians teaching them safety around electricity. Fred is survived by his daughter, Tina Satterfield (Roddy); granddaughters, Brandi Norris (Ryan), Tiffany Satterfield, Heather Elrod; grandson, Johnny Harris; eight great grandchildren, two stepsons, Mike Dickerson and Casey Dickerson; sister, Shirley Fossett; two brothers, Ronnie and Kenneth Towns. Fred is Preceded in death by his wife, Sybil Towns; parents, Hugh and Mazie Towns, sister, Betty Jean Towns; brothers, Charles Towns, Murl Towns, Jackie Towns and Gary Towns. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at the Sosebee Memorial Chapel. The family will receive friends on Wednesday prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Interment will be privately held at Milford Cemetery in Marietta.
