Her obituary: Sandra Jo Merritt, August 9, 1947 – September 26, 2025. Sandra (Sandy) Jo Merritt, a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away September 26, 2025 at the age of 78 after a struggle with Alzheimers. She was being cared for by the Staff at Addington Place of Fairfield Iowa where her son Jathan Payne lives. Born August 9, 1947 in Marietta Georgia to Red and Eunice Clackum, Sandy had a childhood filled with love from multiple cousins who lived nearby. She grew up loving animals at her Grandmother Lovvorn's house, now called The White Rabbit Cottage. As a teenager her favorite TV show was American Bandstand. You could find her many times dancing with a door knob while she listened to the music. She enjoyed learning and graduated from Sprayberry High School in 1965. Sandy began her career at Mead Packaging where she made many life long friends and then continued her career at Lockheed Aircraft until retiring in 2014. Everywhere she went Sandy made friends and enjoyed an active social life. She loved vintage items and worked with her sister, Cynthia, in an antique booth. Sandy is survived by her son, Jathan Payne and his wife Kristina; her grandchild, Ansley Payne and her sister, Cynthia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Merritt, her beloved dog, Abigail; her brother, David Clackum and her parents Red and Eunice Clackum.
