Class of 1964

Gary Harris. Gary died on February 26, 2010.

His obituary: Harris, William. William Gary Harris, 63, passed away after a brief illness at his home in Canton, Georgia early Friday morning February 26. He was born June 25, 1946 in Cherokee County, Georgia to William (Bill) and K. Louise Harris. Gary was a life-long Cobb and Cherokee County resident and was a graduate of Sprayberry High School and North Georgia Tech. After a stint in the United States Marine Corps he returned to Marietta where he, along with his mother Louise, opened the original location of Harris Jewelry Inc. in Canton Road Plaza in 1971 (later moving to Sandy Plains Road). The business was soon joined by his father Bill (who was also an Atlanta jeweler) and his brother David as well as his niece Ashlee Roper. Together they offered an array of jewelry service/sales with all work being done on the premises. Gary was a master craftsman with any and all kinds of jewelry design/repair as well as watch repair. Harris Jewelry Inc. was a Cobb County mainstay business until it closed in 2007 after 36 years of operation. Gary spent most of his later years specializing in the repair of Rolex watches. He loved gardening and being outdoors on this small farm in Cherokee County when he was not working on watches or studying old cars. Driving his 1932 Ford, which he built from the ground–up, was his joy. He was a man with a quiet, sweet spirit who loved his family. He had a fondness for all things unique. He is preceded in death by his father, William (Bill) Clinton Harris. Gary is survived by his mother K. Louise Harris, brother David Harris, sister Linda Walker Stephens, brother–in–law Paul Stephens, nieces Ashlee Roper, Mandee Roper, great-niece Makenzee Roper, great-nephew Larkin Garrett and a host of cousins as well as friends.
