He worked for the Public defenders office for 18 years, was in law enforcement for 26 years and worked for DLS Investigation. Survivors include: Wife: Cindy Smith of the home; Son: Peter Wayne Smith, Dawsonville, GA; Mother: Dorothy Smith, Smyrna, GA; 2 Grandchildren; 1 Brother & 2 Sisters also survive. Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday April 20th at 11am from the Good Samaritan Catholic Church of Ellijay with Father Randy Mattox officiating. Interment will be held in the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA at 12:30pm with military rites by the U.S. Navy. Bernhardt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
