Betty was born and spent her early childhood in the beautiful mountains of Blairsville, Georgia. Her family moved to Murphy, Dalton, Stockbridge, Hickory Flats and then settled in Marietta, GA. Upon graduation from Sprayberry High School in 1957 (she loved her classmates and their reunions), Betty received one of two scholarships at Kennestone Hospital, where she graduated training as an X-ray Technologist. So, commenced her lifelong love of knowledge. As a U.S. Air Force spouse, the family moved from Georgia, to South Carolina, to Okinawa, Japan, to Texas, to Georgia (husband was in Thailand), to North Carolina and upon his retirement settled permanently in Georgia. Betty and Ernie lovingly raised three daughters. Betty made them beautiful clothes commented on by even strangers. She loved bowling, sewing, cake decorating and crocheting. In 1977, Betty received an Associate Degree in Education from Kennesaw College and passed the Georgia State Real Estate Exam. Thus, began Betty’s more than four decades as a real estate agent. She sold many hundreds of homes throughout metro Atlanta, mainly in Cobb and Cherokee Counties. Betty received numerous awards including the million-dollar club and the Phoenix award for her very successful, talented and kind selling abilities. Betty was involved in many organizations. As a three-decade supporter, she volunteered for the Little General Cloggers in their many fund-raising events. Betty founded the Cherokee Eagles American Businesswomen Cherokee Charter Chapter and served as President and Secretary. She was a member for over 30 years inspiring women to break the glass ceiling. Betty was an absolute moral and ethical lady. She showed much kindness to others, including loaning and giving money to relatives, friends and strangers. Betty taught her daughters caring for others by visiting nursing homes (with them), serving in PTA, teaching Sunday School and volunteering on fundraisers for Habitat for Humanity, New Victory Baptist Church, Lottie Moon and many more organizations. Betty was honest, hardworking, very rarely said anything negative about anyone, hardly complained, and loved her family dearly. Her family and friends are thankful to God for the gift of the intervening years to share their time, love and experiences with her. She will be missed by so many, including her Game Day Friends. Betty especially loved the visits and calls from family and friends. She had a great sense of humor and strong belief in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She shared that faith throughout her lifetime and these last years with her kind caregivers. What a wondrous day February 13th was for Betty Scyphers. Betty was blind and now she sees. Please consider donating to the IMB (The International Mission Board) in her memory at: https://www.imb.org. The church Betty attended in Okinawa was started by IMB.
