His obituary: James Sandford Phillips April 21, 1934 ~ December 10, 2018 (age 84) Phillips, James Sanford, Sr., 84, passed away on December 10, 2018 at Tranquility Hospice in Austell, Georgia. He was born on April 21, 1934 in Cumming, Georgia to Roy and Ola (Cape) Phillips. James grew up in Georgia attending high school at Sprayberry Senior High School. Upon graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy where he served for 12 years until medically retired in 1964. He served as an Aviation Machinist Mate and repaired and maintained airplanes on aircraft carriers and Naval Air Stations around the US. During his enlistment, James married Annie in 1957 in Marietta, Georgia. They were happily married for 61 years. James was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church and the Fleet Reserve. He enjoyed baseball, fishing, and good food. He is survived by his spouse Annie currently of Villa Rica, Georgia; his three children, his grandchildren and great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at Mountain View Park Cemetery at 2:00 PM, Thursday, December 13, 2018 followed by a reception at the First Baptist Church of Villa Rica in the Villa Room. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to one of the following organizations that support veterans (in alphabetical, not priority, order): The Adaptive Sports Foundation, AMVETS National Service Foundation, Fisher House Foundation, Hire Heroes, Operation Homefront, Tragedy Assistance Program For Survivors (TAPS), Wounded Warriors Family Support.
