His obituary: Nolan Franklin "Frank" Chalker died July 16, 2004 at Tranquility Residential Hospice at the age of 68 following a brief but courageous battle with lung cancer. His son, daughter-in-law and three beloved granddaughters were at his side at the end.
Frank was born in Kennesaw, Georgia February 2, 1936 and resided in Cobb County his entire life. He was descendant of one of the oldest families in Cobb County. The Chalker family arrived in Kennesaw in the 1860's.
Frank attended Shiloh United Methodist Church as a boy and later joined the Kennesaw First United Methodist Church as an adult. He graduated with honors from Sprayberry High School and later attended Kennesaw Junior College.
In 1969, he was the recipient of the Kennesaw Jaycee's Distinguished Service Award. He was recognized for his volunteer work as a coach with the champion Little League team in Kennesaw. He retired from the Marietta Post Office as General Manager in 1992 after 35 years of loyal service. In his retirement, Frank was active in the Georgia Regional Mustang Club, serving as its vice-president.
He won many awards with his 1965 Mustang GT convertible at classic car shows throughout the state, including several "Best in Show" awards. A picture of his mustang appeared on the cover of the 2002 edition of Muscle Cars and was featured in numerous other publications and calendars. He also served on the Kennesaw Cemetery Commission.
Frank was preceded in death by Herbert L. Chalker and Eunice V. Chalker, father and mother, and Virgil Chalker, brother. He is survived by his loving son and daughter-in-law Ronald F. Chalker and Brenda Chalker of Marietta; granddaughters Jessica Elise Chalker, Hannah Nichole Chalker and Jordan Annette Chalker of Marietta, sister and brother-in-law Annette Chalker Askew and Harlan Askew of Birmingham, Alabama; sister-in-law Idell Chalker of Buchanan, Georgia, nieces Tara Askew Emerson of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Dr. Dara Askew Johns of Niceville, Florida and Sue Chalker McCollum of Buchanan, Georgia, along with his friends and neighbors who were so special to him, especially in his final months of life.
Those wishing to make donations in Frank's memory can be made to Wellstar Home Hospice, 4040 Hospital West Drive, Austell, Georgia 30106. Funeral Services were held at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home in Kennesaw, Georgia. Interment followed at Kennesaw Memorial Park Cemetery.
