His obituary: William G. Heidelberg "Bill", age 84, of Bristol, TN, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, July 12, 2021. He was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey, August 29, 1936, the youngest son of William A. and Margaret E. Heidelberg of Germany.
After his family moved to Georgia in Bill's early teen years he met his wife, Hilda, in 1953 and they married July 3, 1955. Bill entered the Air National Guard in 1954 and was honorably discharged in 1963 as a Staff Sergeant. During that time, he also started a career with IBM in 1959 as a Customer Engineer and retired in 1987 as a Southeast Regional Manager for the company. He had a passion for woodworking and was a skilled craftsman. He loved traveling, fishing, hunting and camping. Combining his strong leadership skills with his favorite activities, he organized and led a number of "travelcades" across Canada, Alaska, and Nova Scotia. He is remembered as fun loving, having a great sense of humor, and loving practical jokes.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by two brothers, Wolfgang W. Heidelberg and Gerhart J. Heidelberg.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 66 years, Hilda A. Heidelberg; three children- Cynthia L. Sweitzer and husband Don, Terry R. Palmer and husband Mike, William Heidelberg, Jr. and wife Annette, 11 grandchildren, and eighteen great grandchildren. The family would like to extend special thanks to Avalon Hospice and Elmcroft Assisted Living Facility for their outstanding and compassionate care of Bill during the last year.
Bill was a member of Enterprise United Methodist Church, Piney Flats, TN.
A memorial service, to be announced at a later date, will be held at his church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Enterprise United Methodist Church, 2000 Enterprise Road, Piney Flats, TN 37686.
